Action Alert
Support Midwifery Education and Funding for Birth Centers
Call your 2 Senators by Thursday, April 6th
Appropriations for next year are being submitted in the Senate in early April. AABC, ACNM and NACPM are partnering to request funding for midwifery education and birth center start-ups. Your 2 Senators need to hear from you to request and support Maternal Health funding.
More than 40 Maternal Health Stakeholders have signed on to a letter asking the Senate Appropriations Committee to support funding for birth center start-ups and midwifery education. The letter contains 3 Appropriations asks-- 1) To continue funding for midwifery education for CPM and CM scholarships 2) To continue funding for Nurse-Midwife education and scholarships and 3) To create a new set aside for birth center start-up funding. AABC is making it easy to build momentum and advance these important budget measures. Fill out the form below and our easy, automated system will walk you through the steps to take action today.
In particular, we are asking you to call your 2 Senators' offices. When you're connected, ask to speak with the healthcare legislative aide. Use our script to ask that your Senators support the Maternal Health Appropriations for midwifery education and birth centers. After you share your reason for calling, you may need to leave a message, so be sure to leave your name and number for a call back. When you finish the call with the first Senator, don't hang up. Press the star key or stay on the line to be connected to your second Senator. When you're done with your calls, please send them an email. This page will direct you to a pre-composed email you can send with one click.
Pregnant people and babies need more attention and better health care access in the US. Please urge your 2 Senators to include these asks in their appropriations requests and support this solution-oriented funding!
