Join the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC), Birth Center Equity (BCE), the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM), and the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) in sounding the alarm on the devastating impact of the Title X funding freeze for clinics across the country, including midwifery practices and birth centers.
Title X is a critical federal safety net program that provides affordable reproductive health care—including birth control, STI testing, and cancer screenings—primarily to low-income and uninsured individuals. These clinics may be the only place where people can access care in their communities.
This sudden disruption threatens the stability of essential reproductive health services and disproportionately harms the communities midwives are dedicated to serving—many of whom already face significant barriers to care.
The impact of these funding freezes is immediate and devastating. Grantees cannot use the supplies purchased with Title X funds, resulting in delayed care due to the need to repurchase supplies already on hand. Additionally, these supplies cost more than when purchased through the government. The forced pause in care jeopardizes public health, further marginalizes historically underserved communities, and unfairly burdens midwifery-led care models already operating with limited resources.
Making care accessible is not political. We are morally and professionally obligated to ensure that all individuals, regardless of race, income, or immigration status, have access to high-quality, evidence-based healthcare. Penalizing providers for upholding these values undermines the very purpose of Title X: to ensure equitable access to family planning and reproductive healthcare.
Please call or email your Representatives' and Senators' offices TODAY to demand the immediate restoration of Title X funding.
